The duo Chase & Status made an unexpected appearance at Sammy Virji’s weekend show at Alexandra Palace in London. Their edit of the UK garage style track “Eastern Jam” was played during their set.

The video captures the moment when the track is played in front of the audience at Ally Pally. The edit adapts the original drum & bass anthem to a slower, groovier UK garage tempo.

“Eastern Jam” is one of Chase & Status’ most famous tracks and has long been a rave classic. The new version shows a shift towards the UKG sound that is currently strongly present in the UK scene.

What do you think, will it also be played on Let It Roll?

The Viennese producer En:vy enters 2026 with a growing catalogue and a stronger position on the scene. At the beginning of the decade, he drew attention to himself with releases on Flexout Audio and Trust Audio and has maintained a consistent output ever since.

His work oscillates between darker drum & bass with reese bass and more melodic vocal tracks. He has released on labels such as Shogun, Must Make, Overview and Gemini Gemini while building a steady relationship with Critical Music. More recent work indicates a clear shift, with the 140 BPM track “Damaio” scoring the most success on Beatport and Spotify. This development shows a shift towards slower, dubstep-oriented tempos. En:vy describes the current period as the strongest phase of his career after nearly a decade of production since 2016. He emphasizes the role of proper timing and momentum in a rapidly evolving scene.

The Berlin-based producer returns to releasing after a hiatus and one of the most difficult periods of his life. According to UKF, the tracks from the EP didn’t appear out of the blue. They were teased in sets by a few select DJs over several years, and fans sought them out even before it was confirmed that they belonged to the producer associated with 1985 Music. In an interview, Submarine says that after the first EPs on 1985 Music, he finished his studies in audio engineering and moved to Berlin during the cover. When he couldn’t find a job in the studios after arriving, he worked in elderly care for about a year and a half and later got a job in a dubbing studio where he worked his way up to Head Of Audio.

In 2024, by his own words, he was going through panic attacks, depression and social decline. He waited approximately 12 months to be admitted to the clinic, where he then spent three months, and it was this, according to the interview, that helped him significantly to regain stability.

He made most of the Runna EP while he was still taking antidepressants, and he calls the track List Of Issues one of the first impulses of the whole project. He dedicated the song Something Special to his partner and names Alix Perez and SpectraSoul’s Forsaken as a major inspiration. The EP combines multiple positions. Something Special and Grounding head into soulful and liquid drum & bass, the title track Runna stands on a harder contrast and List Of Issues moves the project towards jungle.

ARTIST NEWS: Kaleidoscope Orchestra translates drum & bass into their own orchestral language

UKF in conversation introduces Steve Pycroft and his Kaleidoscope Orchestra project as part of the significant growth of orchestral drum & bass. The text also frames the new album Moments Between as a shift from reworking other people’s songs to a first album of original music.

Pycroft says that the power of the orchestra works visually and sonically, and that familiar club tracks take on an extra dimension when performed by the orchestra. In a live performance, he says, people feel the energy of a large group of musicians and the rawness of the performance, which he likens to theatre rather than cinema. Transcribing electronic pieces into orchestral form, he says, begins with repeated listening, writing down melodies and harmonies, and then dividing the parts among the instruments. He considers any sub-genre to be functional, but drum & bass and dubstep are the ones he enjoys the most because of the difficulty of translating the sounds of producers like Skrillex, Flux Pavilion and Noisia into orchestral form.

Kaleidoscope Orchestra was formed in 2011 after Pycroft failed to receive funding for a planned PhD focusing on crossover genres. He says the first impetus was the Skrillex suite, which Skrillex shared on Facebook at the time, and later a collaboration with Flux Pavilion came out of that work; Pycroft also mentions a project with Etherwood in the interview.
